Hard-Boiled Mysteries

This term dates back to the 1920s during the era of pulp mysteries and refers to a tough, realistic type of detective fiction set in a world filled with corruption and deceit. These books and their rough and tumble protagonists follow the tradition of Dashiell Hammet and Raymond Chandler. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.
