I started reading mysteries as a teenager, moving from whodunits to police procedurals. Eventually I fell in love with hard-boiled detective novels and especially the California Noir of Raymond Chandler and Ross MacDonald.
What I write is much lighter in tone, mixing the mystery with romance and the paranormal. I set Dead in L.A. in sun-baked southern California because I love this land, but also because it’s so full of secrets and contradictions. I can’t drive through the narrow, winding roads of the Angeles National Forest without admiring the mountains and ravines and thinking “this would be a great place to dump a body.”
